The impression quickly arises: <strong>My child doesn&#8217;t respect me.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p>But provocative behavior is often <strong>not an attack on you as a person &#8211; but an expression of inner distress.<\/strong><br\/>Because <strong>resistance is often a cry for help in disguise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udde0 What is behind disrespectful behavior?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Children never behave &#8220;badly&#8221; for no reason. They show with their behavior what they cannot (yet) say with words: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Excessive demands<\/strong> (&#8220;I can&#8217;t!&#8221;)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lack of commitment<\/strong> (&#8220;See me!&#8221;)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emotional insecurity<\/strong> (&#8220;I need support, but don&#8217;t know how&#8221;)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learned model<\/strong> (e.g. tone of voice from daycare, school or media)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>They provoke to get a reaction &#8211; because they are looking for a bond, even if they can&#8217;t show it.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2764\ufe0f How to stay in touch &#8211; even when provoked<\/h3>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stay calm &#8211; don&#8217;t take it personally:<\/strong><br\/>Even if it&#8217;s difficult, your child may mean you &#8211; but it doesn&#8217;t mean your dignity. Stay the safe haven. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Address the feeling, not just the behavior:<\/strong><br\/>&#8220;You&#8217;re really angry right now, aren&#8217;t you?&#8221; opens doors. &#8220;Don&#8217;t talk to me like that!&#8221; closes them. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Set boundaries lovingly:<\/strong><br\/>&#8220;I hear you &#8211; and that&#8217;s not how we want to talk here.&#8221; &#8211; Clarity without shame.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reflect together later:<\/strong><br\/>Get in touch after the escalation: &#8220;What happened?
